What is a lag switch?

A lag switch is a device used to intentionally introduce latency (delay) in a network connection for the purpose of gaining an advantage in online gaming. When activated, a lag switch interrupts the flow of data between a game console and the internet, causing the player using the device to experience temporary moments of lag while other players experience normal gameplay. This can give the player using the lag switch an unfair advantage, as they can move around the game world while their opponents are temporarily frozen in place due to the lag. The use of lag switches is considered cheating and is against the terms of service of most online gaming platforms.
